VALCHIAVENNA

The westernmost section of the Province of Sondrio is made up of the Chiavenna Plain - created over the millennia by the deposits of the Mera on its course towards Lake Como - and the severe depression of the Spluga Valley.

Once important valleys along the Via Regina and the Via Spluga, they have lost their strategic and commercial relevance over the centuries. All for the benefit of hikers, who can explore the beautiful plateaus of the Upper Spluga Valley without the crowds of Grisons or Valtellina.

Thanks to its undulating conformation, the Spluga Valley is dotted with a large number of particularly beautiful alpine lakes, from Lake Angeloga, to Emet, to Lake Bianco, to Pian dei Cavalli, to the Lakes of Baldiscio.

Thanks to the density of excursions in these valleys, the Spluga Valley lends itself well to a week's holiday based in the peaceful Madesimo - ideal months: July, when the plateaus are very green and dotted with alpine blooms, and the last two weeks of October, when the larches light up orange and the first snows whiten the highest peaks.
