DOLOMITES

The Dolomites are among the most famous mountains in the world, unmistakable for their severe verticality, their pinnacles, the wide valleys, and the bright tones with which they are tinged at sunset.

The northern slope of the Catinaccio group as seen from Rifugio Bolzano/Schlernhaus, located on the Sciliar group, is a destination for an easy excursion from Alpe di Siusi — right in the heart of the Dolomites of Fassa.

If there's a mountain range that needs no introduction, it's the Dolomites. Renowned for their incredible rocky verticality and the statuesque beauty of their mountain groups, the Dolomites rank among the most famous mountain ranges in the world. Adding even more to their international fame, UNESCO declared them a World Heritage Site in June 2009.

But, as they say, every coin has two sides: incredible popularity comes with incredible crowds. The mountains of Lombardy and Piedmont are still relatively tranquil. The Aosta Valley is more well-known and crowded. However, no Alpine region matches the peak crowds of the Dolomites, where you might find yourself walking — on the most famous trails — in a veritable queue of people. So, if possible, visit the Dolomites in early July, September when the refuges are still open but relatively less crowded, or in October, when the larches turn fiery red.
